Sponsors

We would like to recognise and thank our sponsors without whom...

To date Ptarmigan have been the major sponsors of the Sports Trust. Without their assistance it is doubtful if our story could have ever started.

The Gannochy Trust
We are thrilled to have received annual funding from the Gannochy Trust and this core funding has undoubtedly been the key to attracting high quality coaches to a rural area.

Breadalbane Academy
School Funds

The school has been an active partner throughout the life of the Sports Trust. Their financial support has also allowed for all their feeder Primary Schools to benefit from our coaching programmes.

Welcome...

The Highland Perthshire Sports Trust was formed in February 2004 to try and improve the opportunities for children and young people to play sport.

We made a conscious decision to concentrate on developing the major team sports of football, rugby and cricket because we observed the opportunities to play these sports locally were very limited and we felt given a fresh impetus there was considerable room for improvement here in Highland Perthshire.

2010 heralds a new era of community facilities at Breadalbane Academy, including the completion of new modern sports facilities.

A key driver in the thinking behind setting up the Sports Trust was the breaking news that new sports facilities in Aberfeldy were finally coming into view albeit on a future horizon. Breadalbane Academy had for too many years suffered from having appalling sports facilities in terms of having no Games Hall, no floodlit astro facilities and poorly draining games pitches that turned into a bog during the autumn and winter months. Initially it was hoped that the new facilities would be ready for 2007 but the revised completion date is now November 2010.

A primary aim of the Sports Trust is to ensure that we have progressive coaching programmes and vibrant junior clubs in place by 2010 so that as many of our young people as possible can make maximum use of the new facilities AND that we have created a coaching structure that can increase participation among our young children and develop potential with the most talented players.

A Win Win Situation

The policy of the Sports Trust has been to work in partnership with local clubs to improve the delivery of junior sports coaching. In 2004-05 the club ran one youth side at Under 17 level. In season 2008-09 the Club now runs 5 Boys sides and 2 Girls sides as well as two further teams at Adult level. This dramatic progress led to the club being awarded the SFA ‘Community Club’ Award – only the second club in Scotland to achieve this prestigious status. The Club also won the McDonald’s ‘Grassroots Club of the Year’ Award for 2007-08 awarded at a Gala reception at Hampden Park.

The appointment of a part time Football Development Officer by the Highland Perthshire Sports Trust has been a major catalyst in this success and we highly value our partnership with Breadalbane Strathtay Youth Football Club and all the local schools that have actively participated in our football coaching programmes
